About

Phoenix Cross Country Ski Society

The Phoenix Cross Country Ski Society, now referred to as Phoenix Nordic, has been stewarding the Marshall Lake trail system on Phoenix Mountain since the 1980s. We are a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining and improving this community resource.

Our work is supported through memberships, grants, and our skier development programs. We currently manage the trail system in partnership with Recreation, Sites and Trails BC.

What we do

Year-round, our volunteers handle a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Grooming and maintaining over 15 km of trails
  • Supplying firewood for the Dacha Shelter and Forestry Shelter
  • Maintaining shelters, outhouses, and grooming equipment
  • Running junior and adult ski programs
  • Managing the club website and Facebook page
  • Expanding trail access and improving facilities

We’re always working to enhance the user experience by introducing new trails, launching new programs, and upgrading our winter grooming operations.

Recent & ongoing initiatives

  • Renovation of the Forestry Shelter
  • Expanded and upgraded trail signage
  • Enlarged parking area
  • New race program for junior skiers
  • Launch of a dryland training program
  • Training new ski coaches
  • Development of new snowshoe and ski trails

Our and the area history

Founded by passionate local skiers in the 1970s, Phoenix Nordic has grown from a small grassroots effort into a thriving cross-country ski community. Over the decades, volunteers have shaped and maintained the trails, built shelters like the Dacha, and fostered a love of Nordic skiing in the Boundary region.
