Snowshoe trails
The Marshall Lake trail system now features three dedicated snowshoe trails, all clearly marked on the map below.
- Stewart Trail Loop
- Begins at the start of Mackay Trail
- Climbs gently up to the Dacha Shelter
- Returns via a different route to rejoin Mackay Trail
- Borscht Warrior
- Starts at the west end of the lake, off Jolly Jack Trail
- Connects with Stewart Trail at a higher elevation
- Rick’s Not Here
- Branches off from Borscht Warrior
- Loops back to Borscht Warrior after about 0.5 km
These trails offer a peaceful and scenic snowshoeing experience — enjoy the hike!
Note: Maintaining and grooming our trail system comes with ongoing costs. We kindly encourage all trail users, including snowshoers, to support the trails by purchasing a seasonal membership. Thank you!
Trail maps
Phoenix Nordic maintains the Rec, Sites and Trails Marshall/Providence Cross Country Trail system.
We are excited to be updating our maps this summer for this upcoming season. See some of the older maps below.
Old maps
It is fascinating to look back at the old maps and trails.
Circa 2023
- Powerline will no longer be a marked trail as it is quite inaccessible

Circa 2012
- Snowshoe only trails were just starting to be developed.

Circa 2000/2001
- Shady Lane is no longer but the old wooden sign can still be found.
- Challenger 2 and Shady Lane weren’t maintained and too steep for most folks.
- Wayne’s Wiggle was a short cut but things have since been reconfigured.
- Cenotaph, Downhill, Shields and Glenside were all different trails down to the downhill ski lodge. The groomer from the ski hill does come up a trail now called Phoenix.
